Alita: Battle Angel to feature new song, ‘Swan Song,’ from Dua Lipa

Alita: Battle Angel has been a passion project for James Cameron, and soon it will be coming to theaters in February. Today, it has been announced that the filmmakers will be collaborating with pop singer Dua Lipa to help co-write and perform its upcoming single, “Swan Song.”

“From the moment we saw her video for ‘New Rules,’ we knew that Dua Lipa would be the perfect artist to do a song for ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL,” said Producer Jon Landau. “She has the kick-ass strength, power and attitude in her performances that Alita embodies in the movie. Jim, Robert and I are thrilled to have her on board and are confident she will make ‘Swan Song’ the perfect inspiring and empowering anthem for our film.”

“I am intrigued at both Alita herself, and the amazing team of creators that came together to make this movie possible,” said Lipa. “I see a little of myself in her, in both her badass spirit and our shared haircut. Alita is all about empowerment and standing up for who you are, which are two things that resonate with me.”

Synopsis: Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past.

Alita: Battle Angel is directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and produced by James Cameron and Landau (Avatar).

The film stars Rosa Salazar as Alita, Christoph Waltz as Dr. Dyson Ido, Jennifer Connelly as Chiren, Mahershala Ali as Vector, Ed Skrein as Zapan, Jackie Earle Haley as Grewishka, Keean Johnson as Hugo, Michelle Rodriguez as Gelda, Eiza González as Nyssiana, Lana Condor as Koyomi, and Casper Van Dien as Amok.

Alita: Battle Angel hits U.S. theaters on February 14, 2019.
