VRV launches anime-style episode of ‘Super Science Friends’

Super Science Friends

Super Science Friends is a cartoon that takes history’s greatest scientists and brings them all together as a team of super-powered individuals who travel through time to fight against supervillains. The team consists of Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Marie Curie, Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, and Tapputi, all who are brought together by Winston Churchill.

Super Science Friends ran a successful Kickstarter campaign that helped get the show off the ground. It currently has 6 episodes that can be streamed on the Cartoon Hangover channel on VRV. On episode 3, Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson joined the cast to play himself as the MC of the Nobel Prize Awards.

The animated series created by Tinman Creative Studios’ creative director Brett Jubinville has a very unique look, which is a signature style of Tinman. For five episodes, Super Science Friends has been drawn in Tinman’s distinctive animation, but recently VRV launched a sixth episode that takes the animation of the show in a new direction.

Episode 6 titled “Full Metal Scientist” brings an anime-inspired style to the series. In the episode, a mysterious villain has been hunting down and killing all of the “Manhattan Project” scientists. Albert Einstein takes it upon himself to track down and find out who this mysterious murderer is. The anime-inspired episode shows the super science friends as we’ve never seen them before, especially Tapputi. Typically Tapputi, who is considered to be the world’s first chemist, is usually depicted as a haggardly old woman in the show. This comes from the fact that there are no known images of her, and her only mention comes from a tablet dating back to 1200 B.C. Babylonian Mesopotamia. But in the anime episode, Tapputi is turned into a buxom beauty, which clearly shows that she was modeled to be the Kawaii character of the episode.

Episode 6 is now available to stream on VRV along with the other five episodes
