Ewan McGregor to play Black Mask in Birds of Prey

Ewan McGregor is set to join DC’s upcoming film Birds of Prey featuring Harley Quinn, Batgirl, The Huntress, and the Black Canary. Margot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as the Black Canary, and Rosie Perez as detective Renee Montoya. The film is being directed by Cathy Yan, who recently stated that the R-rated film will feature a half-Asian character, Cassandra Cain/Batgirl.

Black Mask is a Gotham mob boss in the DC universe with a mask fixation. He was the main villain in the DC animated feature Batman: Under the Red Hood and has played a role as a recurring villain the Batman family mythos. He also appeared in Batman: Arkham Origins as the villain who put a bounty on Batman’s head.

The film Birds of Prey is set to open on February 7, 2020. Writer Christina Hodson is attached, who is also writing Batgirl for Warner Bros and recently wrote the Bumblebee film. Ewan McGregor was most recently seen in Disney’s Christopher Robin as well as Fargo on the small screen.
