Evil Geniuses wins 2018 Call of Duty World League Championship, plus Blackout Beta dates

Evil Geniuses has won yesterday and became the winner for the 2018 Call of Duty World League Championship, and the prize received was $600,000. The season has closed with the total prize money racking up to $4.2 million. The week-long event was held at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, and featured gamers competing in Call of Duty: WWII on the PlayStation 4.

Evil Geniuses defeated Team Kaliber and was able to get most of the $1.5 million prize pool from the event.

“Congratulations to Evil Geniuses on capturing the ultimate goal in Call of Duty esports, the CWL Championship,” said Rob Kostich, executive vice president and general manager, Call of Duty. “This was an incredible season for the CWL – a huge thanks to our community of players and fans. From start to finish, the matches were amazing with some of the best gameplay we’ve ever seen in the CWL leading up to last night, and throughout it all, viewership was stronger than ever, which reflects the passion and engagement of fans worldwide.”

Adam “Assault” Garcia was named Astro Gaming MVP during the tournament, and he will also be featured in the upcoming SCUF Gaming Team of the Week.

Fans of the event were able to watch it live via MLG.com/CallofDuty and Twitch.tv/CallofDuty. If you were playing Call of Duty: WWII, you can see it live via the in-game theater.

When entering the CWL events, attendees can see the G Fuel Hall of Champions featuring winners of the past, and Evil Geniuses will be plastered on future events.

With the season coming to a close, the next thing to look forward to is the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. With battle royale being very popular, will the MLG, Activision and Treyarch include the mode called Blackout in the next CWL season? We’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, fans who have pre-ordered the game on the PS4 will get to check out the Blackout Private Beta on September 10th, 2018. Xbox One will get it on September 14th, and PC on September 15th.
