ESPN is putting the eight back in ESPN8: The Ocho

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story - Gary Cole & Jason Bateman

“That’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off…” Essentially, that quote from Dodgeball can certainly be applied to ESPN last year when they first announced that they would be doing (for one day only) “ESPN8: The Ocho” for real. However, it looks like that bold strategy has paid off because ESPN is bringing back ESPN8 on August 8th… 8/8, get it?

The sports network announced today that they will be airing a full 24 hours of fun and off-beat programming on ESPN2. First, the day will start with Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, the inspiration behind all of this fun madness. Afterwards, ESPN8 will showcase some of the finest offbeat sports around. They’ll basically include such fan favorites as the dodgeball world cup (duh), chessboxing (yes, it’s a real thing), and cornhole. And that’s just to name a few. Finally, the day with Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story once again. You can find the full schedule of events below:

As weird as it may sound, some of these sports do sound like entertaining watches. For example, the Moxie Games will feature what’s called Dodge Juggle. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Basically, there are two teams with one juggler per team. The object of the game is to hit the juggler or what he’s juggling. Everything else is similar to dodgeball. It may sound silly but it is the kind of silliness that’s fun to watch.

Fortunately, if you miss any of the programs then ESPN has you covered. Basically, you can find all of the “ESPN8: The Ocho” programming On Demand on the ESPN App. Unfortunately, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story won’t be a part of this. In addition, supporting content will be available across ESPN platforms including, ESPN the Magazine and the ESPN flagship and ESPN Front Row Social handles.

ESPN8: The Ocho premieres on Tuesday, August 8th on ESPN2.
