Billy Dee Williams returns for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

Lando Calrissian returns to a galaxy far, far away for Episode IX.

Billy Dee Williams is set to return as the galactic playboy gambler in next year’s yet-to-be-titled Star Wars Episode IX, per THR. There had been rumors about Williams return, which is set to begin later this summer, but no confirmed news until now.

The actor first made his appearance as Lando in 1980’s Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back and returned for 1983’s Return of the Jedi. The character was last seen in this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story as a younger version of himself, played by Donald Glover. Williams has continued portraying the character in various cartoon series and video games.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: Episode IX stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Joonas Suotamo, Adam Driver, and recently announced, Keri Russell. Star Wars: Episode IX is set to release on December 20th, 2019.
