Adidas and Parley to feature limited-release shoes during ‘Run for the Oceans’ (update)

Adidas and Parley are teaming up again to help bring awareness to ocean pollution with its second annual “Run for the Oceans” events. To help the movement, adidas will be donating a dollar to the Parley Ocean Plastic Program (up to $1 million) for every kilometer finished and logged via the Runtastic app from June 8th to July 8th. Six cities will be participating with over 12 main running events including Los Angeles on June 8th and New York on June 27th. Additionally, 50 adidas Runners communities worldwide will host weekly running activities.

There will also be limited-release UltraBOOST Parley and UltraBOOST X shoes available. They’re inspired by the fragility of the oceans and will mix performance and eco-friendly materials together. Features include the BOOST midsole and 95% Parley Ocean Plastic Primeknit upper, with each pair helping to stop around 11 plastic bottles from the chance of entering the oceans. These will be available online starting June 8 and in stores worldwide on June 27 for $200.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, the event will be held on Friday, June 8 from 6-10pm in Temescal Park. The event will gather runners (ie Shaunae Miller, Tori Bowie and Wayde Van Niekerk), ocean ambassadors, environmentalists, and influencers to help promote positive change for the oceans. A surprise musical guest will be performing. New York’s event will start on Wednesday, June 27 at Pier 26.

You don’t have to be at the event to join the movement. Just use the Runtastic app and track your steps from June 8 to July 8.

Andre Maestrini, General Manager, adidas Sports Business Units said: “At adidas, we believe that sport has the power to change lives and the Run For The Oceans movement truly reflects this. We have created a unique global platform that gives everyone the opportunity to impact their lives by joining a collective running movement that fights marine plastic pollution. Seeing the adidas family unite for a shared purpose is what makes the campaign so powerful.”

The Parley Ocean Plastic Program focuses on the Parley Ocean School initiative where it will empower and educate the youth thanks to immersive experiences. They will learn about the underwater world, marine plastic pollution and what tools are available to help them for the future.

Cyrill Gutsch, Founder of Parley for the Oceans said: “Every second breath we take is created by the Oceans. Still, we are killing its life in rapid speed. We are hosting Run for the Oceans with adidas to step out of our routine, to take a deep breath and to reflect on how important the sea is for every one of us. And to show that millions of little steps can make a huge difference for our movement.”

Also, we have updates on the Los Angeles Run for the Oceans event. hip hop artist Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals will be performing, and a lucky runner will get the chance for a meet and greet and also getting a pair of signed Parley Ultraboost LTDs.
