Professional athletes are sporting their otaku side

Back in the days, it was rare to see a pro athlete show their love for anything nerdy or geeky. But as the years go by, it is more and more acceptable for one to have a geeky/nerdy side. As a big sports fan as well as a person who played sports, it is good to see that these athletes are accepting of their otaku side, as well.

Recently, players such as Mike Daniels of the Green Bay Packers have shown his love for anime by recently dressing up as Raikage from Naruto Shippuden anime (pictured above). He also got his little brother to dress up as Killer B to join him on his escapades during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

And as of a yesterday just before Game 1 of the Eastern semi-finals, we see Joel Embiid of Philadelphia Sixers watching Dragon Ball GT and receiving a massage. And from the look of it, he is on the Shadow Dragon arc. Not my choice of Dragon Ball series, but I’m glad he is powering through this.

It is a great time we are living in where the nerdy, geeky, and otaku sides are starting to be more accepted by everyone. Are you glad that more and more of these athletes are starting to show their love of comic books, computers, and anime?
