Shin Megami Tensei V is on its way to the Nintendo Switch

Shin Megami Tensei V

It’s been nearly 5 years since we have seen a release in the main Shin Megami Tensei franchise. The previous release 2013’s Shin Megami Tensei IV released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS and is still heralded as one of the best traditional RPGs for the system. The short but sweet 80-second video below shows that we will be battling demons in what looks like present-day Japan. SMT V looks to be pretty gruesome. And it should be since we can expect to be facing off with even bigger and more grotesque demons than we have seen in the past.

We have been seeing a lot of games shedding the cutesy image that games on Nintendo are often praised and mocked for in recent years. Mature games like the upcoming Doom, the new No More Heroes and now Shin Megami Tensei V are showing the world that the Switch can handle mature titles. Additionally, it is actively pursuing more of them for its flagship console.

This has me interested to see more of Nintendo’s plans for the future on the Switch. What other prolific franchises and third-party developers will follow up to capitalize on the Switch’s success? Will we ever see a Red Dead Redemption or GTA on Switch? I still have my doubts about the Switch at times, but seeing games like SMT V coming give me hope that there might just be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Currently, there is no release date for Shin Megami Tensei V on the Switch. But make sure to check back as we will post updates as they are released.
