Escape Room Review: Entrapment’s Disappearance at Fogmore Manor

The kill streak has come to an end. Entrapment’s The Disappearance at Fogmore Manor in San Diego has handed Nerd Reactor our much-needed reality check. Nerd Reactor’s A-Team simply did not lose, yet Entrapment found a way to stump the champs. For the uninitiated, escape rooms are where a group of people is locked in a room and the objective is to escape. Escaping is not always easy, and you must put yourself in the mind of the puzzle maker. You must ask yourself questions like where a puzzle maker would hide a key in this room. Most rooms have a time limit of one hour.

Nerd Reactor traveled 100 miles south from our usual stomping grounds. San Diego’s escape room scene is sometimes considered second to Los Angeles’ scene, but from what Nerd Reactor experienced, San Diego is well on the way towards establishing themselves among the top dogs. Nerd Reactor has done 40+ rooms in the Los Angeles area and this was our first venture outside the bubble.

Arrival

Arriving at Entrapment may confuse some since the business is located in a shared space office park. It was not your typical brick and mortar entryway, but just know that you should not always judge a book by its cover. Once we were inside the escape room, the scenery completely changed and the ambiance went from cubicles to creepy.

Darkness

The use of darkness and light in this escape room is very clever. I cannot go into much details without spoiling it, but just know that things remain in the dark and in the light for a reason. Expect to be whisked into another world. Think of the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, then think about not being able to get out!

Technology and Automation

The use of technology is where my real passion lies and Entrapment has far exceeded expectations. I enjoyed the automation going from one puzzle to the next. Often times in other escape rooms, solving puzzles do not give you that affirmative click, and you are left to wonder if you are on the right path. That frustration does not exist here. You can count on the room to transform as you progress. Top 5 in my books for the use of technology in all my escape room experiences. A great feat from this technology focused person.
