Geek Fuel’s Monthly Mystery Box: September 2017 review – Geeky Goodness

It’s that time of the month for geeky goodness – UNBOXING of the Geek Fuel Box!!! The Geek Fuel box, aka the random fandom box, does not have a defined theme each month. Instead, it takes a bit from each fandom and you get random geeky swag worth over $50.

Let’s check out the box:

Of course, the first thing we see, what we always see, is the Geek Fuel Magazine.

The major article for the magazine is Blade Runner 2049, which comes out in theaters on October 6th. The magazine is also filled with interesting articles for gaming, geeky gifts, movies, TV shows, and of course, some spoilers for what’s in the box. There is a great article dedicated to legendary horror director, Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist) that is a must read.

The first item I pulled out caught my attention because it’s so large and fluffy – a Super Marios Bros Koopa turtle shell plush! It’s so SOFT!!! Also, this is extremely rare. I tried to find this online to do a price comparison and I could not find this plush. It could be an exclusive item or just really difficult to find. So, that itself is a plus. It’s a great gift idea for someone who loves Mario Bros, turtles, or just plushies. I tossed this towards my colleagues and it’s super soft as it bounced off their back.

Next grab from the box is the popular Kubros Mega Construx set! For the person who loves to build things, NOW you can! This 143-piece set of Bender is actually pretty easy to construct. I, on the other hand, don’t like building things because it stresses me out. I know so many people build to destress, so this makes a great gift item. Although, the options it provides, makes me interested in trying it out, especially Captain Picard. This Kubros sets retail for $10.

Now, time for the exclusive swag – their Epic Enamels, which is exclusive for Geek Fuel. These high-quality pins are characters turned into automobiles. Epic Enamels dedicated this month to the Cartoon Network with popular cartoons from the channel – Johnny Bravo, Dexter’s Laboratory, Power Puffs, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Space Ghost. If you received Space Ghost, congrats! You got the extremely rare pin, which could go for higher online.

The STEAM game for this month is Warden: Melody of the Undergrowth by Cardboard Keep. This third-person action-adventure game was inspired by games from N64. Players control the three protagonists as they explore the land, meet new and strange inhabitants, and fight bad guys and solve puzzles!

I haven’t gotten to play it yet, but I did watch some gameplay of the game and I’m pretty impressed how close it is to previous N64 games. It looks so much fun. So, you get $20 credit from this box.

Warden: Melody of the Undergrowth‘s Official Synopsis:

Trapped in an ancient forest, a young prince searches for a lost god. Here he befriends the spirit of a young girl and a volatile child, and they quickly find their destinies intertwined. Third-person action-adventure inspired by genre classics of the N64-era.

Feature List:

  • Switch between three playable characters, each with unique abilities, personalities and interactions
  • Explore a colourful, hand-painted 3D world
  • Full-length melodic soundtrack that varies throughout each level based on your surroundings
  • Story-driven campaign spread that tells the tale of world and your place inside it
  • Meet and trade with the friendly denizens making a living in the forest
  • A vivid fantasy landscape to explore, filled with exotic creatures and terrifying monsters
  • Over sixty different weapons with varying strengths and attack styles. Take any weapon used by enemies and exploit their weaknesses
  • Dozens and dozens of challenging puzzles, hidden secrets and mysterious riddles
  • Windows, Mac and Linux support

Of course, the final thing we look at is the monthly shirt! Since last weekend was BATMAN DAY (and Harley Quinn Day), I was excited to see I received a Batman shirt!!! I was confused with the writing, but I thought, well, the image looks like a SNAPCHAT kind of image until I looked at the card and realized: manga!

The design on the card straight up tells you – BAT-MANGA!!! So, it’s in Japanese. Nice. What a great way to celebrate BATMAN Day! When I looked up Bat-Manga shirts, they retail about $20.

Of course, the final thing to look at is the card that reveals EVERYTHING you received in the box. I use it as a source to write thing to you too. So, it just provides more details. So, when we calculate the total, we can definitely say it goes above $50! Whaaaaa?!?!

All of this can be yours now!

Geek Fuel’s September 2017 box is still available on GeekFuel.com. The items in this box are worth $50+ (especially with the exclusivity on those pins). For one box, it’ll cost you $18.90 (+ $6 S&H).
