Nightwing film will refer to his past

One of the big questions about the future standalone Nightwing film is whether it will refer to Batman or even be part of the DC Extended Universe. Warner Bros has hired director Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie) to direct the film based on Bill Dubuque’s screenplay, who wrote the awesome and grounded film, The Accountant.

Nightwing is set to be grounded as well, relying more on practical effects than CGI, according to McKay. He has also confirmed in an interview with CinemaBlend that Grayson’s origins with Haly’s Circus will be referenced in the film:

“Yes. In some form. There will be lots of nods. Lots of nods.”

Haly’s Circus was where Dick Grayson performed alongside his family, ‘The Flying Graysons’, as a child acrobat before they were murdered and he was adopted by Bruce Wayne, aka the Batman. Finding someone who can pull off the always-in-the-shadows sidekick is still one of the biggest questions we all have. Clearly casting is important and the lead actor who will portray the former Batman sidekick has yet to be chosen. But we do have a few suggestions.

We can only wait to find out if Nightwing will be a film filled with incredible fight scenes and a story that will stay true to the origins, but with Chris McKay at the wheel, we should be alright.
