Check out the first look at David Harbour as the new Hellboy

Our first look at the new Hellboy reboot is here!

It’s all thanks to Hellboy’s creator Mike Mignola, who tweeted the image of the Stranger Things actor, David Harbour, as the iconic demon.

The image has received a lot of buzz from social media with comparisons to the Guillermo del Toro’s 2004 film starring Ron Perlman. From the look of Harbour’s Hellboy, the new Neil Marshall-directed film will be a bit darker than its predecessor. It could also be because this film will be Rated-R. The 2004 film Hellboy and its sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, were both rated PG-13, which limited the amount of violence, words, and sexuality.

Hellboy’s hair is longer and his horn-stubs look more torn up than before. His body has veins popping from left to right. Hellboy’s iconic Fist of Doom is also more metallic and looking grittier than ever before.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola first announced the R-Rated project back in April with Mignola, Aron Coleite, Andrew Cosby, and Christopher Golden writing the script. The Hellboy reboot stars Harbour as the title character; Milla Jovovich as the villainous Blood Queen; Ian McShane as Professor Broom, the adoptive father to Hellboy; Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida; and Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan; and, just announced, Daniel Dae Kim as Sgt. Ben Daimio. Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin and Mike Richardson serve as producers. Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman and Carl Hampe serve as executive producers.

Hellboy began filming today. Lionsgate has not announced a date for the Hellboy reboot but is expected to be released sometime in 2018.

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen Synopsis:

Hellboy comes to England, where he must defeat Nimue, Merlin’s consort and the Blood Queen. But their battle will bring about the end of the world, a fate he desperately tries to turn away.
