Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin movie has a release date!

People have been on opposites of the spectrum lately ever since Guy Ritchie announced his next project. It’s not that he isn’t a bad director in most people’s eyes; it’s more of a “DON’T MESS WITH MY CHILDHOOD” kind of stance. Now we not only have a film currently being made, but we also have a release date!

According to Entertainment Weekly, hours after the world found out that J.J. Abrams officially stepped into the director’s role for Star Wars: Episode IX, he made his first decision as director by pushing back the film’s release date. Why is this unique? Because the film’s old release date will now belong to Ritchie’s live-adaptation Aladdin film!

That’s right! You can catch Aladdin, the princess, the genie and the rest of their friends on the big screen officially on May 24, 2019. This means the film is being marketed as one of the 2019 summer blockbuster films, and quite probably one of the highest grossing films of that summer. Seeing as the original animated film was released at the peak of Oscar season back in 1992, it’s not unusual to have a film of this caliber to avoid the holiday season, especially when so much of the marketing will be focused on the final episode of the new Star Wars trilogy.
