Info on Titans’ Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly as Hawk and Dove

DC’s Titans has cast 2 new surprising roles for the upcoming series following the DC heroes, Hawk and Dove. Hawk and Dove are to be played by Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly. Ritchson is known for Blue Mountain State, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Blood Drive, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of Shadows, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, and Lazer Team. Kelly is known for Friday Night Lights, Almost Human, Parenthood, and Jane the Virgin.

Hawk and Dove are two of the longest standing characters in DC comics having made their debut in 1968. Most people will know the original Hawk and Dove as the 2 teenage brothers, with the older being the temperamental and militant Hank Hall aka Hawk, and the smart and calmer Don Hall aka the first Dove. But after the death of Don following 1985’s Crisis on Infinite Earths, Dawn Granger took over the title as Dove.

In the upcoming series, Hawk and Dove will be a romantic couple who are also a crimefighting duo. Based on the ages and history, they could have been part of the original Teen Titans until the original Dove Don died, which could be why they are only reoccurring characters in season 1. But according to Deadline, there are rumors that they could be added as series regulars for season 2, according to their current contracts. They have also reported rumors that Hawk and Dove could potentially have their own spin-off series.

Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly are joining the cast of Titans, Brenton Thwaites who will play Dick Grayson/Nightwing, Anna Diop as Starfire, and Teagan Croft as Raven. The only casting news left for the 4 main Titans is who’s going to be playing Beast Boy.

Hawk and Dove are a crime fighting duo who play off of each other’s strengths and weaknesses with opposing ideologies that that represented the nature of 1960’s politics. While both have heightened strength, speed, and agility they are powerful once they announce their namesakes. Dove represents reason and nonviolence and Hawk representing force and aggression, they complement one another and find a state of balance in order to effectively combat evil. With Dawn’s introduction, it was revealed that Hawk and Dove receive their powers from the Lords of Chaos and Order, respectively, and that their powers are mystic in origin.

It would be easy to see how these 2 could fit into the Titan’s universe, possibly acting as Mentors or reserve members who both help and foster the younger members of the group while offering a storyline that might be worthy of their own series. They have been both part-time members of the regular Titans team and joined part of Titans West in the original comic book incarnations.

Titans official Synopsis: “Titans explores one of the most popular comic book teams ever. It follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire, Raven and others.”
