Shenmue 3 teaser trailer is here… and Ryo’s blank expression is back!

Shenmue 3 ryo
Shenmue was a series that captivated many fans during the Dreamcast days. The last game was Shenmue II, and that one came out in 2001. Fans would have to wait over a decade until the third game would come out. Finally, a teaser trailer for Shenmue 3 is out, and even though there are many excited fans, there are also many fans who are disappointed. Why? Well, the facial expression and character models could use a lot of work. But you’re not a Shenmue fan because of the animation, are you?

Check it out below.

A lot of fans will forgive the quality of the animation since they want to know how the story ends. It was a grand tale that had protagonist Ryo Hazuki, a teenage martial artist, travel from Japan to China to find his father’s killer, Lan Di. But before he can do any of that, he would first have to look for sailors and work hard as a forklift driver. Oh, let’s not forget moving crates from left to right!

One fan had this to say about the graphics:

“I understand that pretty much everyone who is going to get this game isnt getting for the graphics, but tbh ive seen indie companies with less money have better face and body animations than this? I feel like the faces look like a “hd remake” rather than a current gen new title in the series.”

Another just wanted the facial animation to be better:

“Honesty, if the facial animations were spot on, this would be a good teaser trailer. That’s the one thing that pisses me off; I think everything else seems great. Please fix the facial animations YS Net! Get an outside party if needed; the developers seem to be good at environments and lighting, but not animation”

One is still hopeful about Shenmue 3:

“Tough crowd in here. 1) Be grateful we’re even getting a new Shenmue. 2) Game is still a work in progress. Don’t expect it to be super-polished. No point in stating the obvious.”

I think we can all agree that the Shenmue theme music used here is epic. (It’s giving me goosebumps!)

Here’s what Shenmue creator and director Yu Suzuki had to say about the game.

“To celebrate the news, I would like to share with you a teaser video built from a small slice of an in-development build of the game. As you will see, the latest chapter in Ryo and Shenhua’s journey begins with a beautiful set piece in China. You’ll also see that we’re aiming to significantly upgrade the game’s visuals, and you may also notice a new character during that quick glimpse of our new battle gameplay…”

What do you guys think about the teaser trailer for Shenmue 3? Do you think they should put in some more work on the facial expressions and character models? Or are you fine that you’re actually getting a new Shenmue game? Let us know on the comments section below.
