Donald Glover shares feelings on having a new Han Solo director

Less than a couple of months ago in the Milky Way Galaxy, there was drama at Lucasfilm for the upcoming Han Solo movie. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were canned to make way for Ron Howard. In the middle of it all is Donald Glover, who’s playing Lando Calrissian, a role made famous by Billy Dee Williams. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was hesitant about spilling the beans on the situation. From the sound of things, it appears that there is a disadvantage in changing from one director to another.

“Ron is such a legend, and he knows exactly what the vision for what he is doing is … [but Phil and Chris] hired us, so you sort of feel like, ‘I know I’m not your first choice …’ And you worry about that,” said Glover. This does not sound like good news.

“To be honest, I don’t know exactly what happened,” he continued. “I feel like I was the baby in the divorce, or the youngest child. The oldest child is like, ‘We know what’s happening, but we are keeping you out of it.’ And I’m just like, [Glover’s voice rises several octaves] ‘Was that scene good? How did you feel?'”

Yeah, he’s definitely feeling out of the loop, and that’s always a terrible feeling when you’re working on a collaborative project.

In addition, Glover describes himself as a “color in someone else’s palette” for his Han Solo gig. He’s used to being in control of his projects, so the lack of it is challenging. (The man is a musician and TV show producer.) However, he is still resuming with his acting with roles like Simba for Jon Favreau’s live-action Lion King remake.

Donald Glover is working on an animated Deadpool series with his brother. But before that comes out, he’ll be working on the second season of FX’s Atlanta when production starts in September.
