Here’s a recap of the ‘Black Panther’ SDCC footage

Black Panther - Poster #1

Although the room was already buzzing after Thor: Ragnarok, they have no idea what was in store for them with Black Panther. What was shown literally brought everyone to their feet and got the cast all excited. Here’s what we saw:

The footage begins with T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), and Okoye (Danai Gurira) enter through a metal detector. Once they’re past security they enter a casino. Afterwards, T’Challa and Nakia are on the casino floor while Okoye is keeping watch on the second floor.

T’Challa walks the floor and glances at Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman). Without delay, Ross seemingly acknowledges him back. Suddenly, Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) walks through the metal detector. “Klaue plus eight,” said Okoye. “In position to secure our exits,” she continues.

Nakia notices that Klaue’s men have weapons inside the casino. “There are no weapons allowed in here,” she said. Nakia replies with “it was supposed to be.”

Klaue and Everett Ross meet on the casino floor. “That is quite the entourage… Is there a mixtape coming up?” Ross asks. “Yeah, actually,” Klaue replies. “Hey, can you get him the SoundCloud link?” Then you see that Klaue has replaced his severed arm with something bionic. Next, he laughs and asks Ross if they got to him.

“Did you get the diamonds?” Klaue asks. “Pretty much, it’s in the vault,” replies Ross as he hands him a briefcase. Both Ross and Klaue continue with their banter. After that, Ross asks for the package. “The vibranium,” Klaue replies. Without delay, he reaches into the unzipped crotch area of his pants and pulls out the package. Not surprisingly, this disgusts Ross.

T’Challa, Nakia, Okoye sees the package and tries to think of a way to retrieve the package. “There are way too many guards here,” Nakia says. “We can’t afford to shoot our friends,” T’Challa replies. “It’s now or never,” Okoye answers back.

A guard notices that Okoye is speaking into an earpiece and tries to stop her. This is where Danai Gurira begins to go full Michonne. Okoye busts out with her long golden spear and promptly dispatches the goon. She then tosses her wig at another goon and deals with him as well.

At this instant, T’Challa grabs Ross and protects him from all the gunfire. As the mayhem continues, T’Challa notices that Klaue is trying to escape. He chases after him and easily jumps to the second floor of the casino. “You know what? You look just like your father,” Klaue says with a smile. After that, he extends out his bionic arm and transforms into a laser gun. He fires it at T’Challa as the Marvel Studios logo appears.

Black Panther - Trailer #1

After the logo, Kendrick Lamar’s “DNA” starts playing in the background. We see a black Lexus starting to speed down the street. As T’Challa is chasing after the car, his suit starts to dissolve and become the Black Panther suit. Suddenly, he does a back flip and lands on the Lexus.

Next, T’Challa is arrving at Wakanda and is greeted by his mother, Ramonda. “My son,” she says. “This is your time.” Then we get a shot of a plane going to the waterfall where they perform their ritualistic combat. It’s T’Challa vs. M’Baku (Winston Duke) this time around. After the fight, we see a conversation between T’Challa and W’Kabi. “I want to be a great king,” he tells W’Kabi.

“You get to decide what kind of king you are going to be,” a female voice says.

Afterwards, the footage then switches back to the car chase. We see T’Challa’s younger sister, Shuri, driving a self-driving car. T’Challa jumps from car-to-car as he tries to avoid all these explosions. At one point, we see T’Challa running up the side of a building from the momentum of the cars. Finally, Okoye throws her golden spear onto the road. As a result, the Lexus crashes into the spear and almost splits the car in half.

Lastly, we see an exchange between Erik Killmonger and T’Challa. “Must feel good sitting here comfortable,” Killmonger tells T’Challa. All of a sudden, Killmonger creates a Panther suit of his own. For the most part, it appears similarly to how T’Challa’s suit appeared earlier.

Killmonger begins to attack T’Challa. Both characters fall and spiral down a chasm.
