The Defenders Comic-Con panel gives sneak peek of The Punisher series

It seems like fans of Netflix’s The Defenders were treated to another surprise at their San Diego Comic-Con panel in Hall H on Friday. Actor Jon Bernthal surprised the audience during the panel by introducing a clip from his coming Marvel series, The Punisher.

The clip, which was not released publicly, showed a darker side to the Marvel brand. This makes sense since The Punisher kills for vengeance. The character was first introduced in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil. The Punisher series will take place after Daredevil and explore more of Frank Castle’s life becoming the anti-hero.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the clip was as described.

The teaser starts with a flashback to Frank Castle (Bernthal) and his daughter playing guitar before shifting into new footage of the character in his Punisher persona. First, Frank chases two baddies before gunning them down andr unning them over with his van in rural Alabama. Next, the scene shifts to Juarez, Mexico, where a cartel member is getting intimate with a woman when Punisher snipes him from across the border in El Paso, Texas. It’s this shot that’s rather graphic, as viewers see the man get shot in the head with blood splattering all over the wall behind him. Finally, the scene shifts to Chicago, where Frank kicks in an airport bathroom stall, choking the man inside. Begging for his life, the man tells him it won’t bring his family back, bringing the clip to its end.

The Punisher could possibly be in the upcoming The Defenders series out on August 18.

The Punisher is set to release sometime this year in 2017 on Netflix.

Marvel’s The Punisher Official synopsis:

After the murder of his family, Frank Castle is both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he’ll become known as The Punisher.
