SDCC 2017: Ready Player One debuts and it’s amazing!

Ready Player One (2018)
Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival

After such a long wait, we finally get a glimpse of Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, based on the dystopian futuristic novel written by Ernest Cline. The trailer features characters and elements from many different universes like Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, Iron Giant and more. We get a good look at the world of The Oasis, a virtual world that millions go to. When the creator dies, he reveals a game within the world that would leave the winner in full control of The Oasis.

Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) then becomes immersed in trying to win the game, which consists of finding Easter Eggs across the world eventually leading to victory. What stands in his way besides other players, are an organization looking to take over The Oasis. After watching the trailer, I am so excited to not only see the film, but also read the book. There are so many pop culture references that spark nostalgia, and that’s just the trailer alone. Check it out for yourself below.

Ready Player One hits theaters on March 30, 2018 and stars Tye Sheridan as Wade, Olivia Cooke as Art3mis, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg, T.J. Miller, and Hannah John-Kamen.
