The 13th Doctor is coming… this Sunday!

BBC has released an exclusive teaser to prepare audiences for the announcement for the 13th Doctor.

The announcement will happen this Sunday after the Wimbledon Men’s Final, which starts at 2 pm in London (For the USA fans – 6 am PT/9 am ET). It could last anywhere from two to four hours, depending on the game length. BBC One will air Wimbledon in the UK, but will be on ESPN in the US. I’m not too sure how this is going to work for USA fans since Wimbledon is aired on different networks. They may have it on BBC America immediately following the game, but we are waiting to find out.

In the exclusive ad shown on social media, there are images of famous places with the number 13 – including Downing Street, the Statue of Liberty, and the desert. Someone is getting the key to the TARDIS, but WHO?

There have been many speculations on who the next Doctor is. The current favorite is Kris Marshall (Love Actually, Death in Paradise), who happens to also be a ginger. Marshall also recently left his television series Death in Paradise because “decided it’s simply no longer practical to spend six months of the year 4,000 miles away in Guadeloupe”.

Other names included in the betting pool includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whose representatives denied she is going to play the Doctor, who is still a favorite in betting pools. Micheala Coel of Chewing Gum was also considered in the running, but the actress recently denied the rumors. There’s no confirmation whether BBC would consider a female Doctor, but many of the creatives, cast, and fans have expressed their approval for a female Timelord. But, it’s really up to the new showrunner, Chris Chibnall. Chibnall, whose work included Broadchurch and Camelot, said he would write up the script first and cast the Doctor accordingly.

I guess we have to wait until Sunday to find out who the 13th Doctor is. Only Doctor Who could make me care about the Wimbledon Men’s Final.
