Jake Busey joins The Predator to play son of Gary Busey’s character

The Predator
Predator came out over 30 years ago, and Shane Black is working on the fourth installment of the film titled The Predator. Over the decades, we have had Predator, Predator 2, Predators, a couple crossover films with AVP: Alien vs Predator and Alien vs Predator Requiem, comic books, and a few video games. Yeah, it looks like the franchise isn’t going to die anytime soon.

And in respect to the underappreciated sequel, Predator 2, Black has cast none other than Jake Busey. (Busey is the son of Gary Busey, who starred in the sequel.) He’ll be playing Special Agent Peter Keyes’ son, who appears to be following in his father’s footsteps.

When asked about what to expect in the new film, Black tells Slashfilm:

“I’ll tell you a little bit about it. It’s an attempt to event-ize the Predator and make it more mysterious. The Predator has been so overdone in a way — very low budget with a guaranteed return, every couple of years there’s a knock off churned out … I want people to say, ‘The Predator is coming, I know it’s coming, we want to see it, it’s mysterious, interesting, it’s got the same sense of wonderment and newness that Close Encounters had when that came out.’ That’s what we want. That’s very impossible to achieve, but we’re going to try.”

It’s important to note that Black also plans to forego using CGI as much as possible. And he’ll be sticking with more practical effects, making the movie have the same feel as the original. But who will be donning the Predator suit?

Predator is set to release on August 3, 2018, and will star Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Olivia Munn, Thomas Jane, Yvonne Strahovski, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Edward James Olmos, and Jake Busey.

The Predator (2018) unofficial synopsis: A former Marine leads a battle against extraterrestrial hunters on Earth.

Predator 2 (1990) synopsis: Los Angeles is enduring a heat wave and a crime wave, so the pressure on police officer Michael Harrigan (Danny Glover) to solve a strange string of murders is mounting. Harrigan thinks the culprit can be found among the warring gangs and drug cartels, but FBI Special Agent Peter Keyes (Gary Busey) knows the horrible truth: Their killer is a fearsome extraterrestrial (Kevin Peter Hall) with keen hunting abilities that include superior night vision and the power to make itself invisible.
