‘Daddy’s Home 2’ Official Trailer adds John Lithgow and Mel Gibson to the mix

I’ll admit it. I loved Daddy’s Home.

Yes, the premise is paper thin and watching Will Ferrell basically playing an extreme version of Will Ferrell isn’t exactly novel. But, dang it, if it doesn’t have some truly hilarious moments between Ferrell and co-star Mark Wahlberg. Critics be damned, Daddy’s Home is a fun diversion that leans on the chemistry between its two A-List stars to create something that may not reach Anchorman or Talladega Nights levels of comedy, but still proves to be a fun and funny diversion. And although the film may have been critically savaged, it made enough money (over $200 million worldwide) to warrant a sequel.

Based on the official trailer that released this week, it looks like Daddy’s Home 2 is going to pretty much more of the same. Which is to say, if you enjoyed the first movie, the second movie will likely be right up your alley. But if you didn’t, then you’d best stay away. But really, even if you didn’t like the first film, there are definitely worse ways to spend two hours than watching two prime comedic actors playing off of each other.

Daddy’s Home 2 picks up right from where the first movie ended, with Wahlberg and Ferrell’s warring fathers having reached a truce about how to co-raise Wahlberg’s children from his first marriage. Arguably, the two have even become friends after Wahlberg buys the house across the street from Ferrell. Of course, things get complicated when both of their fathers come by to visit over the holidays (Get it? Daddy’s Home 2!). Wahlberg’s father is played by Mel Gibson, who clearly out-machos Wahlberg. While Ferrell’s father is played by John Lithgow, who proves that the nebbish apple didn’t fall far from the tree. So what happens when you take the oil and vinegar mixture of alpha and beta males and multiply them by two? I guess we’ll find out this November.

Daddy’s Home 2 is Scheduled to be released in November 2017.
