First poster for ‘Black Panther’ released; Teaser trailer coming tonight

Hail to the Black Panther, baby.

Time to board another hype train Marvel fans! After several months of set pics and set footage leaking out, we’re finally getting something official. Not to mention, we’re getting this much earlier than most of us expected. Today, Marvel Studios released the very first poster for Black Panther. Additionally, Marvel is also releasing the film’s teaser trailer tonight during Game 4 of the NBA Finals (go Dubs).

Without further ado, check out the king sitting upon his throne below!

Black Panther - Poster #1

There are several things to take away from this one-sheet. First of all, the Wakandan throne room tonally looks similar to Asgard. It might be the gold or the use of angles but it definitely reminds me of Asgard. Next is the message that the poster is trying to convey. Thanks to his standout performance in Civil War, we know that T’Challa is a bad ass. However, he looks very lonely here. Which isn’t surprising since his father just died. Judging by the way he went through Civil War without any help, it’s not surprising that he can’t trust anyone but himself. Finally, the throne is definitely inspired by Jay Anacleto’s variant cover for Black Panther #4. Just without the spears, of course.

Be that as it may, the design of the poster is a bit questionable. Notably, Chadwick Boseman’s head seems to be floating on top of the suit.

What do you think of the poster? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below!

Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.
