‘Mary Poppins Returns’ reveals new images of the characters

Mary Poppins Returns released new images of the set, via Entertainment Weekly. In this week’s issue, EW revealed photos of Emily Blunt as the title character, Miranda as Jack the Lamplighter, and the three Banks children – Annabel (Pixie Davies), Georgie (Joel Dawson), and John (Nathanael Saleh).

The film will also see the return of the two children she cared from the original film – siblings Jane and Michael Banks (played by Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw, respectively), now all grown up with children of their own.

It’s 1935, during the Great Depression in the United Kingdom, the Banks children are all grown up and have remained in Cherry Tree Lane. After a family tragedy that left the Banks numb and sad, they are visited by their former nanny to bring some spark back into their lives. With her magical powers and the help from Jack the Lamplighter (played by Lin-Manuel Miranda), Mary Poppins is able to bring back happiness back into the Banks’ lives.

Sadly. there are no photos of Meryl Streep as Topsy, Mary’s cousin, who first premiered in P.L. Travers’ 1935 novel Mary Poppins Comes Back. Hopefully, we’ll see some eventually.

Mary Poppins Returns Official synopsis:

Mary Poppins Returns is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Julie Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Meryl Streep).

Mary Poppins Returns is set to be released on Christmas Day 2018.
