We’ve been attending MomoCon for the past few years now, and MomoCon 2017 had the biggest guests and gaming options to date.

Overwatch was clearly the most popular fandom this year. You couldn’t walk 10 feet without running into a cosplayer with one of several characters from the game. In addition to community managers and senior designers from Blizzard, the lineup also included voice actors such as Charlet Chung (D. Va), Jonny Cruz (Lucio), Lucie Pohl (Mercy), and Matthew Mercer (McCree).

Other big hitters in the industry were also present, including Square Enix, Wizards of the Coast, and JackBox Games. Atlanta local, WWE wrestler and YouTube personality Xavier Woods was also present to meet fans and take part in panels. He is a huge fan of gaming culture, so it’s always a delight to have him at the convention. Fans were also in for a treat with an intimate concert on Sunday from A New World: Music from Final Fantasy.

The main conventional hall had a large vendor space, and an even larger gaming floor. At over 190,000 square feet, MomoCon now has the largest gaming floor in the southeastern US. Attendees could take part in board games, card games, LAN games for PC and consoles, old school arcades, and rare Japanese arcade options, courtesy of Tokyo Attack.

Even with all the growth, MomoCon still has heart. Some of the most memorable events for us this year were fan-focused panels that highlighted the positivity, acceptance, and community aspects of the convention culture. In conclusion, the weekend was full of smiles, hugs, shrieks of excitement over the shared love for a fandom. Come check out the fun yourself, as pre-sale tickets for 2018 are already on sale.
