Tom Hardy will play Venom in Spider-Man spin-off film

Venom
It has been fun to watch actors from the Marvel camp jump to DC and vice versa. Audiences are going to see this with J.K. Simmons, who played J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League. Sony has made an announcement for its Venom film. And soon audiences will get to see Tom Hardy, who played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, become Venom.

Hardy is one of Hollywood’s most wanted actors, so why would he want to become Venom? According to Variety, he’s a big fan.

Check out Hardy throwing a peace sign as he sports a Venom shirt.

Director Ruben Fleischer In Final Negotiations

In addition to the casting news, director Ruben Fleischer is in final negotiations with Sony. He has helmed Gangster Squad and Zombieland.

Sony is really pushing for this film since it is already aiming for an October 5, 2018 release.

This isn’t the first time Venom was on the big screen. Topher Grace played Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3. The character has been a fan-favorite with fans, which helped Marvel turn the Spider-Man villain into an anti-hero. In the comics, Eddie became Venom thanks to an alien symbiote that initially attached itself to Peter Parker.

The film’s script has been written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Pinkner has worked on Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. (Should that be a concern?)

Along with directing films, Fleischer has also directed TV shows like NBC’s Superstore and Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet.

Sony’s Other Spider-Man Spin-off Projects

Marvel Studios and Sony have been working together for the new Spider-Man films, with the first one being Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Venom film will be just a Sony project. There’s also no news of whether we’ll get to see Tom Holland as Peter Parker. (Come on, Sony, make this happen!)

The movie studio is also planning on developing other films using characters from the Spider-Man universe like Black Cat and Silver Sable.
