Amazon’s The Tick series to premiere August 25

The Tick
This week Amazon Prime Video announced that The Tick will be premiering on Friday, August 25th. Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) stars as the titular superhero in the comedy series.

Synopsis: In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a super villain. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.

To help Amazon choose which shows to greenlight, it made the pilot episode available for Amazon users. The Tick competed against shows like Jean-Claude Van Johnson starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. However, Amazon decided to proceed with giving both shows a full first season. (That’s great news for fans of both The Tick and the martial arts actor.)

The series looks to be taking on a different approach, based on what I’ve seen from the pilot episode. One would think that the show would feature lots of Tick, especially since the show is named after him. Nevertheless, the show seems to be focusing more on Arthur.

The Tick Series Before

This isn’t the first time The Tick had a series. Fox released an animated series in 1994 during the Fox Kids block, and it was able to last three seasons. Townsend Coleman, who’s known for voicing Michaelangelo in the classic ’80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, voiced┬áthe Tick. Later in 2001, Columbia Tristar Television decided to make a live-action version starring Patrick Warburton (Family Guy) that aired on Fox. The show only aired eight episodes. Soon after the network canceled the show. (Fox didn’t own the series, therefore it didn’t bother with properly promoting it.)

The Tick will premiere on Friday, August 25th, on Amazon Prime Video. Ben Edlund, the Tick creator, created the show. It also stars Griffin Newman as Arthur Everest, Jackie Earle Haley as The Terror, Brendan Hines as Superian, Yara Martinez as Ms. Lint, and Valorie Curry as Dot Everest.
