Dragon Quest XI features 3 different art styles across PS4 and 3DS

Dragon Quest XISquare Enix finally revealed gameplay for the next installment of the Dragon Quest series. It was revealed that Dragon Quest XI will be coming to both the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS on July 29th in Japan.

What’s really interesting about the title is that each version of the game features completely different visuals. The PlayStation 4 version features more life-like 3D character models. The 3DS version will actually feature two completely different styles. One will have a more cel-shaded anime style look and the 16-bit version will have the more traditional look and feel to the game including first-person view in battles.

I’m actually quite fond of all three styles myself. It makes me wonder if any versions will make its way out to the West in the near future. This is mainly due to the fact that outside of Dragon Quest Heroes, which was developed by Tecmo Koei and published by Square Enix, every other Dragon Quest game since has been released on the Nintendo Ds or 3DS and published by Nintendo.

It comes down to if there’s enough fan support if this game does come to the PlayStation 4.

Which visual style do you prefer?
