New Transformers: The Last Knight trailer teases Optimus Prime’s creator, possibly a Quintesson

Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight. In the previous trailers, we see Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, turning to the dark side. His eyes are purple and he is seen attacking another Autobot member, Bumblebee. What is causing the bad-ass robot to turn on his friends? The new trailer gives us a glimpse of that as Prime is confronted by another mechanical being.

Possible Spoilers Ahead

During CinemaCon, attendees got to see clips from the upcoming film. These reveal more on why the movie is titled The Last Knight. King Arthur and his knights team up with some robots, and somehow they are the link to saving present-day Earth. Who is the last knight? We’ll have to wait until the movie comes out to find out.

In the new trailer, we see Optimus being held captive and talking to a female robot with tentacles. She has features like the Quintessons (as seen in The Transformers: The Movie.) Check out a clip from the film below to see how the Quintesson dispenses justice.

Could the robot be a Quintesson? Optimus addresses her as “my maker” after she asks him if he wants to seek redemption.

In the Transformers animated series, the Quintessons are the creators of the Autobots and Decepticons. Check out this little history of Cybertron from Transformers Generation 1.

The Quintessons created the Autobots and Decepticons and used them as slaves. However, they were overthrown once their creations decided to rebel.

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

The film is directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Isabella Moner, Stanley Tucci, and John Turturro.

Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
