Game of Thrones’ 8th and final season confirmed for 6 episodes

Winter is coming yet again, and with Game of Thrones Season 7 promos and leaks coming out, the anticipation for the next season grows strong. Over the weekend during SXSW, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed some details regarding Season 8. Season 7 hasn’t started and plot details are still kept secret. Getting away from their traditional 10-episode season, Season 7 will have 7 episodes and now Season 8 will finish the series with only 6 episodes.

The decision to shorten both seasons could be a good one. Rather than stretch the seasons with filler, they can focus more on the story while adding more to the budget per episode. Fewer episodes per season mean more money per episode if their budget per season remains the same. During their panel, Benioff and Weiss took the chance to tease fans with Sansa’s death, “We fight over who gets to write which half, who gets to kill Sansa. We both wanted to kill Sansa so bad.”

Game of Thrones returns for Season 7 July 16, 2017.
