First Han Solo cast image released as the spinoff officially commences filming

It’s finally happening! Principal photography has started rolling on Red Cup the Han Solo spinoff film and we couldn’t be happier. The announcement came from Lucasfilm, who also announced the rest of the cast of the film through a cute cast photo as well. Check it out!

From left to right we have: Woody Harrelson (Garris Shrike, Han Solo’s mentor), Chris Miller (co-director), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (the first significant female droid character), Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Emilia Clarke (the female lead), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Phil Lord (co-director), and Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian). Not pictured, but announced as part of the cast is “Westworld” star Thandie Newton.

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller had this to say about the film: “Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous. We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”

The Han Solo spinoff will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with the smooth-talking card player, Lando Calrissian.
