Ghost in the Shell Super Bowl spot teases classic anime theme song

Fans of Kenji Kawai’s score in the Ghost in the Shell movies can get excited about the Ghost in the Shell Super Bowl spot. Check out the 30-second spot below and you’ll be able to hear bits of the “Making of Cyborg” track from the classic Ghost in the Shell anime.

Don’t get too excited since Clint Mansell is the composer for the live-action version. How much of Kawai’s work will be infused in the film? I have no idea, but Mansell is another reason to get excited since he is also a talented composer. (His track, “Lux Aeterna,” was used to great effect in the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers trailer.)

The film is directed by Rupert Sanders and stars Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt & Juliette Binoche.

Ghost in the Shell infects theaters on March 31, 2017.

Here’s the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers trailer featuring Mansell’s score in the second half.
