Universe Survival Arc risks everything in Dragon Ball Super

Last week, we were provided with the 10 fighters that would represent Universe 7 in the upcoming Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super. The biggest surprise in that announcement was the return of Android 17. Having been absent since being absorbed by Cell, he’s only been seen in a small cameo at the end of the Buu Saga. Now, we have more details regarding the Tournament of Power being held by Zen-oh, or rather both Zen-ohs. We know the tournament is being held between all 12 universes and will show who has the strongest fighters between the 12. But, now something more sinister has been revealed.

A trailer, below, was provided during Jump Festa a few weeks ago providing more into the upcoming arc. Along with a montage of all the story arcs so far in Dragon Ball Super, it revealed, in manga style, the Universe Survival Arc. The Tournament of Power will host all 12 Gods of Destruction and Kaioshins/Grand Kais from each universe. They will bring the 10 best fighters they have from their respective universe. However, when a team loses in the tournament, their universe is destroyed immediately after the loss!

Will the team of Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Master Roshi, Tien Shinhan, Piccolo, Majin Buu, Krillin and Androids 17 & 18 be enough to save the Dragon Ball Universe from total destruction? This arc is completely different from anything we’ve seen so far in Dragon Ball. Rather than having a villain who is determined on total domination (King Piccolo, Frieza, Babadi, Garlic Jr, etc), seeking revenge (Dr. Gero, Cooler, etc.), or the destruction of everything (Majin Buu, Cell, etc.), the Dragon Ball Universe now faces destruction based on the result of a tournament held by the highest kai, which is Zen-oh. Zen-oh’s innocence and child-like demeanor mask his power and ability to wipe out an universe at will. And at first the tournament was thought to be held to show the best fighters from each universe, it’s now turning into the annihilation of many worlds and lives, leaving only one universe left out of 18. 12 are left after Zen-oh wiped out 6 universes after getting angry and now will begin to wipe out 11 based on the losing teams from the tournament. We’ll have to wait and see how our heroes will fair in the upcoming tournament.

The Dragon Ball Super Universe Survival Arc will begin February 5, 2017
