The new Fantastic Beasts exhibit debuts at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood
Devoted Potter fans on the West Coast have long known that one of the best places to experience the magic from the Harry Potter films is at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in Hollywood. As the tour concludes they let you explore an entire floor filled with the memorabilia of the Harry Potter films. You can even sit under the sorting hat to see which Hogwarts house you belong to. Of course we now have Wizarding World at Universal Studios, however, there’s something special about seeing the actual props used in the movies in person. Due to the recent success of the new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a prequel to the Harry Potter saga, Warner Brothers Studios has added a brand new exhibit to the rest of their Potter-phernalia.
Nerd Reactor was invited to the special event unveiling of the new Fantastic Beasts exhibit. For the event, the exhibit lobby was transformed back into 1920s New York with stacks of old luggage, flapper waitresses, and bartenders in suspenders. Special drinks with dry ice, teapots overflowing with Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans, décor of old books and typewriters, and delicious bites tray passed on newspapers seemingly apparated you right into the movie. In attendance were actors from the movies, Dan Fogler and Bonnie Wright. Dan Fogler, who plays the darling no-maj Jacob Kowalkski from Fantastic Beasts, shared that the sorting hat put him in Gryffindor house. Bonnie Wright, who plays Ginny Weasley in all eight Harry Potter films, was also present for the unveiling. In a touching moment, she was presented with one of the wands that she used in the Harry Potter films. “For fans these costumes and props were such a big part of the experience when watching Harry Potter. I think that’s what is exciting, to see those details.”
The Fantastic Beasts exhibit begins in the existing Harry Potter space which takes up about half of the floor. The first artifact shown is the original Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them text book featured in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, linking the connection between films.
Concept art hanging on the walls shows the ’20s era style incorporated with whimsy from the wizarding world.
Gorgeous dresses on display worn by characters Queenie and Tina.
Props on display from MACUSA, the Magical Congress of the USA.
Newt Scamander’s coat worn in the film.
Lastly, these were my favorite – the pastries from Kowalski’s Bakery. These looked good enough to eat!
This is just a sneak peek at some of the items you will see on display. The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them exhibit at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in Hollywood officially opens to guests on Friday, December 9th.
