Razer Deathadder Mouse and Gigantus Mouse Pad Review

eSports has come a long way. With many new games geared toward competitive play, and tons of events taking place with many prizes at stake, it’s hard to find the right set of tools for your PC to fit your play style. Razer has you covered with the Deathadder Elite Mouse and Gigantus Mouse pad. Razer calls it “The eSports Gaming Mouse,” and it is specifically designed for competitive gameplay and comfort. It’s low key look and feel gives off that simple vibe but handles even the toughest matches you can throw at it. It’s also customizable with the Razer Synaspe app that allows for DPI settings, color combinations, and key mapping.

  • True 16,000 DPI optical sensordaelite_gallery03
  • Up to 450 IPS / 50 g acceleration
  • Razer Mechanical Mouse switches
  • Ergonomic right-handed design with textured rubber side grips
  • Gaming-grade tactile scroll wheel
  • 7 independently programmable Hyperesponse buttons
  • Razer Chroma lighting with 16.8 million customizable color options
  • Razer Synapse enabled
  • 1000 Hz ultrapolling
  • On-the-fly sensitivity adjustment
  • Gold-plated USB connector
  • Seven-foot, lightweight, braided fiber cable

There’s a lot of tech that runs the Deathadder Elite. Several of them work really well together, like the Mechanical Mouse switches coupled with the 1000 Hz ultrapolling and Hyperesponse buttons. In quick-paced matches, you’ll feel no lag when it comes down to quick actions. My game of choice was Paladins, and in those close matches, I felt the Deathadder Elite to be more responsive with every button. The DPI optical sensor is no joke in the Deathadder Elite. It offers several modes of precision for every play style and can be changed at any given moment. Need to slow down the mouse for that head shot? A quick click on the button and you can drop the DPI to suit your needs. Or if you’re all over the place in an RTS game, you can up the DPI up to 16,000 DPI with just a few clicks. It’s really handy when necessary, and the default button placement is just below the wheel mouse.

The Deathadder comes with 7 programmable buttons, enough to fit any game style while not being overwhelming. Placement of the buttons has a practical design by keeping two on the thumb side and adding two just below the wheel mouse. It makes it easy to reach any of the buttons without wandering your finger around trying to find the right one. The ergonomic design feels very comfortable. Through some time, my hand and wrist would get tired no matter what mouse I used, even some designed for comfort. With the Deathadder Elite, I would see myself playing for quite some time with little pain whatsoever. The design also provides a natural fit to your palm without feeling big. And with only a few buttons to press, your ring and pinky finger don’t feel any pressure from trying to push buttons on the right side of the mouse. And when it comes to those long matches, comfort can go a long way.

No gaming set up is complete without the most basic item necessary: the mouse pad. A small, simple yet vital tool that has been utilized long before PC gaming, the mouse pad helps elevate what your mouse can do. Coupled with the Razer Deathadder Elite, the Razer Gigantus is that mouse pad to push what any mouse can do. Available in 3 versions, the Gigantus is designed to provide as much space possible without slipping or running out of space.

  • Ultra large size for low DPI gameplay
  • Textured cloth finish for perfect balance between speed and control gameplay
  • Dense foam with rubberized base for optimal comfort
  • Anti-fray stitching
  • Approx. size: 17.9″ (L) x 17.9″ (W) x .19″ (H)

One of the many complaints of a mouse pad is its size. When it comes to quick reflexes or fast action games, any standard mouse pad just won’t do. The Razer Gigantus will end all your complaints with its size alone. The Gigantus is more than just a big mouse pad. The texture allows the mouse to glide over it with ease. The base itself offers a nice cushion for your wrist while playing. The bottom of the mouse pad provides grip to prevent it from slipping under the mouse or even sliding with the biggest tugs. A huge playing area provides an adaptive game style for any player. The Deathadder Elite felt great gliding over the Gigantus, but in reality any mouse felt just as smooth.

Final Reaction

If you’re looking for a mouse to start playing competitively, then look no further than Razer’s Deathadder Elite. It’s simplistic button layout will allow any player of any skill level to easily jump in and play without feeling intimidating. Many PC players may start with the Deathadder Elite and then move on to something with more buttons, but it is designed for the long run with the tech powering it. It’s easy to use but hard to let go. And throw in the Gigantus to complete your competitive gear. The size alone is enough for any PC player, and the design and feel provide a smooth style that is unmatched. PC gaming is its focus, but the Gigantus is easily utilized for everyday use for how comfortable it feels on the wrist.
