Live-action Fullmetal Alchemist trailer is here

The adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric are heading to the big screen in a new live-action movie set to release next winter in Japan. FullMetal Alchemist, also known as Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, is the next anime series to be brought to life as we return to a world of alchemy and equivalent exchange.

Based off of the manga by Hiromu Arakawa, it follows young Edward and Alphonse as they study alchemy in hopes of resurrecting their dead mother. Things don’t turn out as planned with Alphonse losing his body and Edward losing his left leg. Edward sacrifices his right arm to attach Alphonse’s soul to a suit of armor. Determined to restore their bodies, Edward becomes a state alchemist in hopes of getting closer to the Philosopher’s stone.

The movie will be directed by Fumihiko Sori (Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker) and will see Ryosuke Yamada playing the role of Edward Elric. No word on who will be voicing Alphonse Elric, but two other roles that have been confirmed are Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell and Dean Fujioka as the Flame Alchemist Colonel Roy Mustang.

It’s a short trailer but we get a good look at Edward in action, a bit of alchemy, a chimera and Alphonse, who will be mostly CG.
