Confirmed title for sequel, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom
John Boyega (Attack the Block, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has confirmed through his Instagram that the title to the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel will be Pacific Rim: Maelstrom with the caption “First day on Pacific Rim today. Here’s to a great adventure ahead ✌?”
The first film featured Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Charlie Day. With Elba as Stacker Pentecost dying in the first film, it is expected that Boyega will be playing his son as they share the same last name. Joining him will be returning star Ron Perlman, and new addition Scott Eastwood.
The first was written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, with co-writer Travis Beacham. Del Toro and Beacham are both now involved in the writing of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, and Del Toro is also a producer. The sequel will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight, who was the showrunner for Netflix’s Daredevil and Spartacus.
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is expected to hit theaters on February 23, 2018.
