Say it isn’t so, Tim!! After giving Fox its biggest hit of the year, Tim Miller has decided to amicably leave Deadpool 2. Contractually, Miller was never signed on to come back as director, but he was planning on coming back and was co-developing the script as well. However, Deadline has reported that Miller and star Ryan Reynolds had a “series of creative differences” thus leaving no choice but for Miller to step down as director. Despite leaving Deadpool 2, Fox is still very high on Miller and the studio is already looking to him to direct their next hopeful tentpole, Influx.

This exit comes at a time when the film is deep in the casting process for its two new characters, Domino and Cable. Recently, a list of all the stars testing for Domino was revealed including Lizzy Caplan (“Masters of Sex”), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane), Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Stephanie Sigman (SPECTRE), and Sylvia Hoeks (Overspel). There have been no word yet on any casting decisions on Cable.

The road to Deadpool has been notoriously well-known by fans and industry insiders everywhere. Throughout the years since X-Men Origins, Reynolds continuously pushed for the movie to be made, and the film eventually was green-lit after the Miller-directed leaked concept footage spread like wildfire across the Internet. Reynolds’ belief in the movie paid off big time, as the R-rated superhero film eventually grossed more than $750 million in theaters worldwide and became a cultural phenomenon (see: Ajax/Francis memes).

But alas, that’s just how Hollywood works and directors have left big superhero films over creative differences. The most memorable of them all was Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man after years of developing the film for Marvel Studios. Wonder Woman director, Patty Jenkins, also left Thor: The Dark World over creative differences with Marvel Studios as well. This “creative differences” scenario also hit Warner Bros/DC Films also as writer/director Seth Grahame-Smith left The Flash.
