Brie Larson shows us how she’s already preparing to join the MCU as Captain Marvel. Tweeted this weekend, she is seen reading “Captain Marvel Volume 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More” by Kelly Sue DeConnick and David Lopez. Donning Carol Danvers’ signature uniform in the form of a cute zip up jacket. This is how I too spend my weekends!

Larson was announced as Captain Marvel on stage during last month’s San Diego Comic-Con by Kevin Fiege, President of Marvel Studios, nearing the end of Marvel’s Hall H Panel. She was already attending the convention to promote her role in Warner Brother’s Kong: Skull Island and came out again to the delight of the fans. Finally the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a solo female fronted movie and we couldn’t be more excited!
Let’s not forget this Oscar winning actor (The Room) has had her feet wet with in the comic book adapted movie realm with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, one of my all-time favorite movies. She played Scott’s ex Envy Adams. Although I don’t think they had any scenes together, our darling Captain America Chris Evans also had a role in Scott Pilgrim, and we would love to see Captains Marvel and America cross paths in the MCU as they have in the comics. She also received direction during Scott Pilgrim under Edgar Wright, who went on to write and direct Marvel’s Ant-Man before backing out of the project just before filming.
Captain Marvel will be written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and should be announcing a director in the coming months. It’s currently slated for a March 8, 2019 release.
We may not have to wait until 2019 to see Larson in her new role. The Russo Brothers teased back in May (via comicbook.com) that Captain Marvel may appear in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 likely as a cameo or end-credits scene.
