Tesoro ‘s ‘Arrow of the Stars’ Sagitta Gaming Mouse (review)

sagitta mouse2

The Constellation “Sagitta” originally comes from the legendary arrow used by Heracles/Hercules to kill Aquila, Jupiter/Zeus’ eagle, in order to free Prometheus from his punishment. Fast-forward to today, and we have a new mouse from Tesoro bearing the same name, Sagitta. The question is, can this one fly true like its mythological counterpart or is it missing its fletchings?

Before I hop into the review, here are the features:

  • 2-meter braided cable
  • Resolution adjustable up to 5000 dpi
  • 16.8 million color lighting
  • 512 KB built-in memory
  • 32bit ARM Cortex Processor
  • 6 fully programmable buttons
  • 10 million heavy-duty clicks
  • True ergonomic comfort

The Sagitta mouse is designed with customization in mind. Of all the mice I’ve used in my 20+ years of gaming, this one takes the cake for options. Out of the box, it is a standard-issue mouse with a scroll wheel, 4 standard buttons for clicking and a 5th for adjusting your dpi on the fly. The 5 buttons can be customized, however, it also comes with a number of other options including macros, keyboard functions, precision aim, and even windows shortcuts.

Along with its extensively customizable button mapping, there is also the performance side which includes the following: 5 levels of dpi, polling rate, scroll speed, acceleration, double click speed, snapping angle, and lift height. You can also create profiles for the Sagitta in case you need different settings for various games, or if it happens to be shared between different users. I spent a lot of time adjusting each of these features to customize it just right.

By far, my biggest concern with the Sagitta was the fact that I was unable to use it with my current mouse pad. I have gone through many mice and none have ever given me an issue when used on any other pads. This one was extremely inaccurate in regards to precision, and this was after hours of customizing. After all that was said and done, I was finally able to get some accuracy with it on my desk sans the mouse pad. To test it a step further, I purchased a thicker mouse pad. That worked like a dream, and I was on my way to decimate all my enemies that stood before me.

The mouse wheel and the company’s logo on the mouse are customizeable with over 16.8 million RGB colors to choose from. However this led to my other disappointment. Half of its preset colors do not show properly, with most of them being either washed out or a different color altogether when selected on the color spectrum. In order to find the color you want, you must adjust one of the RGB columns to zero to avoid the whitewashing and get the true vibrant colors you’d expect. If you don’t want to spend the time to adjust these, you can change the effect settings to either Loop or Rainbow. Although this may seem a bit frivolous and superficial to some, it shouldn’t take me 10 minutes to set up the color I want.

Final Reaction

Along with its very comfortable feel, the Sagitta comes with all the bells and whistles when it comes to customization. However many of the options will be lost on the average user if they don’t put in the time. While it is a good mouse, it does require quite a bit of time customizing before it operates at maximum potential. Thanks to the intuitive Tesoro software, even newcomers will find their proper settings with enough time and patience. While it may be possible to fix some of my negatives through updates to the drivers and its software, as of now I will be putting this “legendary” Arrow back on its shelf and equipping my trusty sword until that day arrives.
