SDCC 2016: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Hall H trailer recap
During this year’s Marvel Studios panel at Hall H, the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 rocked the stage with a raucous opener, an awesome clip, and fun panel. To finish off the Guardians Vol. 2 panel, Marvel Studios introduced the Comic-Con crowd to a brand new trailer for the upcoming sequel.
The trailer starts off with Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” playing with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Drax (Dave Bautista) on the roof of some tower. “You got a rifle?” Star-Lord asks Gamora. “You don’t know what a rifle looks like?” Gamora retorts. “Look, I thought your thing was a sword,” Star-Lord counters back.
“We’ve been hired to stop an inter-dimensional beast and I’m gonna stop it with a sword?” Gamora replies. “Don’t look at me like I’m an idiot. You’re the one being inconsistent,” Star-Lord answers back. Suddenly that inter-dimensional beast, which looks a lot like Cthulhu, rips through the sky above as Star-Lord says, “showtime a-holes!” Drax, with his dual blades, yells at the sky as the Guardians get ready for battle.
We are then introduced to Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) and her race, the Sovereign. Ayesha is gold from head-to-toe. “Careful what you say to these folks. They’re easily offended and the cost of transgressions is death,” Star-Lord tells the other Guardians. “You know, they told me you people were conceited douchebags,” said Rocket to the dismay of the other Guardians. “But that isn’t true at all!” as Rocket winks to the other Guardians.
“Dude!” replied Star-Lord. “Why is everyone mad?” asks Rocket. The Guardians are now in a forest as Star-Lord says, “now they’re trying to kill us you stupid raccoon.”
“DON’T CALL ME A RACCOON!” Rocket yells back. “I’m sorry, I took it too far… I meant trash panda,” Star-Lord quips back. “Is that better?” asks a confused Rocket. Drax looks confused as Star-Lord laughingly says, “no, it’s worse… It’s much worse.”
We are now given a brief looks at each individual character: Star-Lord turning on his helmet, Gamora jumping up in the air and stabbing the inter-dimensional creature her sword, Drax yelling “screw you spaceship” as he repeatedly stabs an organic wall, Rocket shooting a big gun with Baby Groot on his shoulder, Baby Groot, Mantis screaming, Nebula, and Yondu. During these set of scenes, we’re shown a brief glimpse of Sylvester Stallone choking Star-Lord.
After all that, an egg-like spaceship lands in front of the Guardians. “After all these years, I found you,” a familiar voice says. “And who the hell are you,” Star-Lord replies. “I figured my rugged good looks would make that obvious,” the man answers back. “I’m Ego and I’m your Dad, Peter.”
The Guardians are on-board Ego’s ship as Ego (Kurt Russell) explains how a planet is a human, “I created what I imagine biological life to be like. Down to the most minute detail.”

“Did you make a penis?” Drax quizzically asks. “Dude!” Peter said. “What is wrong with you?” Gamora asks.
“If he was a grown being, how could he make a baby with your mother?” Drax asks. “I don’t need to hear about how my parents…” Star-Lord interrupts.
“Yes, Drax. I got a penis,” Ego replies back in a deadpan tone. “THANK YOU!” said Drax.
