We’re one week away from the craziness that is San Diego Comic-Con. It’s already been announced that Marvel Studios would be taking over Hall H on Saturday with James Gunn, Chris Pratt, and the rest of the Guardians cast in attendance. To add to the hype train before their appearance, James Gunn (via EW) released an explosive concept art of the Guardians in action. From left to right we see, Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), baby Groot (Vin Diesel), Yondu (Michael Rooker), Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Mantis (Pom Klemetieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana). Check it out!

Executive producer Jonathan Scwartz talked about Mantis, saying “She has never really experienced social interaction. Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.” He continues by talking about baby Groot, “He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot,” Schwartz says. “He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”

With the exception of Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot, the rest of the guardians pretty much look similar to their iterations in the first film. Pom Klementieff’s Mantis also looks vastly different from her comic book counterpart. Instead of a green-skinned humanoid with antennas, Volume 2‘s Mantis is a light-skinned humanoid with buggy eyes and antennas. Still unknown is the identity of Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan.
