Cliff Martinez to score upcoming Wolverine film

Here’s great news if you loved the retro synthpop music of Drive. Its composer, the talented Cliff Martinez, has signed on to score James Mangold’s untitled third solo Wolverine film.

In addition to the critically lauded cult classic, Drive, Martinez has worked on a number of other acclaimed projects including Traffic, Spring Breakers and the Cinemax series The Knick. Most recently, he’s done work on The Neon Demon, which is in theaters now, and War Dogs, which will be released near the end of the summer.

The upcoming Wolverine sequel will mark Hugh Jackman’s final appearance as as the mutant with razor sharp claws and healing factor. Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal will co-star along side the Australian actor. There are no plot details at this time, but the film will be directed by Mangold, written by David James Kelly and produced by Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.

With Mangold directing, Martinez scoring and an R rating being implemented, it looks like we’re in store for one of the more unique and artistic superhero movies in the same vein as WatchmenX-Men: Days of Future Past or Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

The next Wolverine film is set to be released on March 3, 2017 by 20th Century Fox.
