Critics may hate the Warcraft movie, but China loves it

Warcraft Movie

Giving new meaning to the words, “review-proof“, the critically panned video game adaptation Warcraft defied global expectations, grossing an astounding $46 million in China on its opening day. This absolutely blows away the previous record for best non-weekend opening in China held by Avengers: Age of Ultron. Although savaged by critics, and tracking to rather pedestrian numbers domestically, Warcraft clearly has a ton of support abroad. Not that this should be surprising, given World of Warcraft‘s absolute domination of the MMO market in China over the past decade.

So Warcraft fans, if you end up getting the Warcraft movie trilogy that Duncan Jones wants to make, you have China to thank for it.
