Rumor: Marvel Studios to give fans Planet Hulk storyline in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’?

After years of being rumored, Planet Hulk is finally being adapted… Just not in a Hulk standalone movie. JoBlo recently revealed a hefty amount of information regarding Thor: Ragnarok. According to the site, “The film will definitely have the Planet Hulk element in it, operating as a kind of mash-up with the Ragnarok story. How Thor ends up on the planet in question is unclear, but he will definitely be involved in some gladiatorial games run by none other than Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster,” they said. “In terms of Hulk’s appearance in this portion of the film, he will be rocking the one-shoulder armor as seen in the comics, so expect him to be decked out in the familiar Planet Hulk look.” The formidable costume (see below) is one of Hulk’s most iconic costumes – apart from the classic purple pants and the World War Hulk costume.

That’s not all! In addition to the Planet Hulk scoop, JoBlo also talks about Thor and Valkyrie’s drastic new look in Ragnarok. “The God of Thunder himself for this part of the film as he will be sporting a shaved head (but not completely bald) for at least a portion of the film. Also, expect a very different look for Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, who is traditionally a blonde-haired warrior type in the comics. For RAGNAROK she’ll be wearing war paint on her face, much like a Native American warrior, which should be an interesting take on this variation of the character.”

The shaved head Thor look has been seen before in the comics, but those familiar with the comics know that the Thor seen below is none other than Tony Stark’s Thor clone, Ragnarok. Yes, you read that right… Thor will have Ragnarok’s baldish look in Thor: Ragnarok.

As for the story, there’s not much that was revealed but the site did say this much: “Thor’s mission in the film is that he needs to find the ultimate weapon to stop Ragnarok and reset the universe. What is that weapon and how does he gets set on that path? Your guess is as good as ours…” Much like Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok is sounding more like an epic event film rather than a solo outing. Feige said that Thor: Ragnarok will “a very important movie for us in Phase 3… We plan on taking Thor to another level” and I’m starting to believe him. As an ardent fan of the Planet Hulk storyline, color me excited for Thor: Ragnarok.
