Confirmed today via his official Facebook page, The Rock announces he will star as the “Man of Bronze”, Doc Savage, in the movie adaptation. Also behind the project is director/writer Shane Black known for Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys, and the upcoming Predator remake. He is joined by writers Anthony Bagarozzi & Chuck Mondry, and producer Hiram Garcia, the vice president of production at Johnson’s own Seven Bucks Productions.

The Rock seems super psyched to add this role to his roster and really seems to already know the character. He stated via Facebook:

“Comic book fans around the world know that the cool thing about “Doc” Savage is that he’s the inspiration for Superman. First name Clark, called “Man of Bronze”, retreats to his “Fortress of Solitude” in the Arctic etc etc.

Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women’s perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything.

But here’s the #1 reason I’m excited to become Doc Savage.. HE’S A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!”

This certainly sounds like the perfect role for him.

Doc Savage was originally published in pulp magazines during the 30s and 40s and dubbed “the world’s first superhero.” There were 181 issues of the comics and magazine novels which were reprinted in 1964 by Bantam Books reigniting the series’ popularity to a new generation.

What do you think of this casting for The Rock? Are you excited to see a new take on “Doc Savage”?
