Beauty and the Beast tops Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ teaser trailer record
Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast movie has trumped Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ record for most viewed teaser in history in its first 24 hours. Not bad for a teaser featuring shots of the castle, voices of Cogsworth and Lumiere, a painting of the Beast’s family, and an unclear shot of Emma Watson as Belle looking at the magical rose. (The opening music track gave me goosebumps.)
The teaser has been viewed 91.8 million times in its first 24 hours, beating out other record holders including The Force Awakens’ 88 million, Captain America: Civil War’s 61 million, and Avengers: Age of Ultron’s 34 million, according to Disney.
The Beauty and the Beast teaser trailer premiered on ABC’s Good Morning America and also aired Monday night on the Bachelorette’s premiere. Expect more people to see the teaser when moviegoers attend Alice Through the Looking Glass this weekend.
Beauty and the Beast is directed by Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters, Dreamgirls) and is a live-action retelling of the classic animated film by Disney. It stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, and Luke Evans as Gaston.
Beauty and the Beast hits theaters on March 17, 2017.
For fans of Alan Menken’s score from the animated film, he’ll be returning to score the live-action version.
