Marvel has just confirmed the newest cast members to join the MCU in the third Thor film, Thor: Ragnarok.

Alongside the returning Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Idris Elba, we’ll be seeing Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day: Resurgence) portraying the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (Creed) as the classic hero Valkyrie, and Karl Urban (Dredd) as the dreaded Skurge. Rounding out the new additions is two-time Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett (Carol) as the villainous Hela, who plans to take over Asgard. If you’re not familiar with who Hela is, according to Marvel, Hela was born ages ago to the being who would one day be called Loki and the sorceress giantess Angrboda, and would later become goddess and ruler of the northernmost realms of the dead.

“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet,” said Kevin Feige. “The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible.”

One other thing to note in the announcement is the return of Odin, played by the illustrious Academy Award-winner, Sir Anthony Hopkins. At the ending of Thor: The Dark World, it was uncertain if Odin was still alive or if Loki had finally done away with his adopted All-Father. It seems that Hopkins will be returning for the latest installment, but the questions still remain as to in what fashion will he return?

Along with the casting news comes also some concept art, as we get an image of Hela facing off with the Asgardian guards!
