Atari’s Centipede and Missile Command to get movies

Video game movies are known to be mediocre, but that may change with two movies this year. We have Warcraft coming up with director Duncan Jones (Source Code, Moon) and Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse) later this year. Now we have news of two more video game movie projects. Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films have teamed up with Atari to help produce and finance the classic ’80s games, Centipede and Missile Command.

Randall Emmett and George Furla will be producing with Tim Sullivan, Tony Callie and Ted Fox joining as co-producers. The films will be executive produced by Atari and Stephen Belafonte.

Atari was king back in the ’70s and ’80s with games like Asteroids and Pong.

With that said, these two new projects just announced don’t really inspire hope, but hey, I could be wrong. Perhaps we’ll get a very dramatic and emotional tale of a pest control worker trying to annihilate insects and bugs to help save the world.
